Ally, a lovely Thoroughbred mare, sadly passed away on June 30, 2015 at the age of 29.

Ally was born on February 11, 1986 and we rescued her back in 2003. She had been a "show pony" for a young girl when her owners stopped paying board for her at the stable where she was being kept. Except for feeding Ally, the stable owner stopped taking care of her and locked her in a stall where she languished for a year. When a friend who also is an attorney happened to see what was happening to Ally, she immediately called us to see if there was any way we could take her, which we did. She was terrified of being locked in a stall and refused to go into any kind of enclosure for a very long time, even during inclement weather. No way was she ever going to be trapped again! After working with her here at the sanctuary, Ally slowly began to trust again. She came to enjoy her own stall that she could enter and leave at will. She especially loved being groomed and pampered as she became one of the stars in the Main Barn who everyone came to visit. Several of our volunteers were extremely close to her and gave her lots of love and attention, as did our dedicated staff, especially Pat and Sonya who provided the special care that Ally required every day. She also had a loving sponsor who resides in Alameda, CA.

The atmosphere in the barn will be very much changed now without our precious Ally. She will be sorely missed.
