In 1999, Equine Advocates traveled to western Pennsylvania to rescue thirteen horses at a small auction. We had been contacted by a local resident who was afraid that all the horses would go to slaughter. Most of the horses came from Amish farms and were primarily Standardbreds who had been used as buggy horses and Draft Horses who had been used for work.
