Meet the Residents of the Equine Advocates Sanctuary

Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary, currently the home of rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules—plus two pygmy goats, has truly become a haven for horses. It is an equine village where horses get to live out their lives in a natural environment that allows them to socialize with each other. If you would like to help the horses living at Equine Advocates Sanctuary, please visit Sponsor a Horse.

Sophia, a Belgian Draft, is a Canadian PMU mare who we brought to the United States in 2004. Destined for certain slaughter, Sophia was in foal at the time of her rescue. She gave birth to a filly named, Terry, who also lives at the sanctuary. Sophia spends her days with her best friend, Annie and several other mares from the PMU industry.

Sophia is proudly sponsored, in part, by a supporter from Hudson, New York.
