Taco, a Quarter Horse, passed away on April 2, 2015 at the age of 23.

Taco was rescued at an upstate New York summer camp in 2002. Taco had been spooking on the trails because he was losing the sight in his right eye. He was about to be scrapped for slaughter at auction when Equine Advocates heard about his story and came to his rescue. We purchased him privately and sent him to an equine hospital where his bad eye was removed and replaced with a prosthetic one. We had to keep him at a boarding facility until we acquired the property for our horse sanctuary two years later in 2004. Over the years, Taco had battled some serious health problems, but always bounced back. Sadly, this time, he did not. Taco had many fans, visitors, doting sponsors and an attentive staff who lovingly dealt with his many special needs. He loved attention and people.

Taco was Mr. Personality and one of the most popular equines at the sanctuary ever. Taco will be sorely missed and will live in all of our hearts forever.
