Josephine, born around 1991, is a half-blind Standardbred mare who had been an Amish buggy horse when Equine Advocates rescued her in 2001. She was adopted the same year, but came back to us in 2008 after the woman who adopted her passed away. Josephine spends her days alongside Gracie in our “Pretty Women” pasture.
The abuse of buggy horses, work horses and mules by some farmers is an issue which we have dealt with many times over the years. The only way to discourage the over-breeding of these animals is to finally ban horse slaughter and close our borders to transportation of equines from the U.S. to Canada, Mexico and any other country for the purpose of slaughter.
