Lionel was a six month-old PMU foal rescued by Equine Advocates in 2000 at a slaughter auction in Winnipeg, Canada. He was one of 12 horses we rescued that day. Lionel had been adopted twice since his arrival in the U.S., but came back to us in 2016. He will join the many other horses here at the sanctuary who were also victims of the cruel, outdated and completely unnecessary PMU industry. Many doctors agree that equine estrogens are dangerous for the human body and that safer and better plant-based alternatives for ERT/HRT medications should be used instead. Lionel and his best buddy, Jack, live in the section of the sanctuary we call “Ebony & Ivory.”
