On October 8th, we came to the rescue of a malnourished and seriously injured six-year-old Thoroughbred located more than 300 miles away from our sanctuary. He had ended up in the hands of a horse dealer, which meant he very well could have been sold for slaughter, especially given his poor condition. As soon as we picked him up, we transported him to Cornell University Hospital for Animals in Ithaca, New York, where he underwent skin graft surgery on a huge open wound on his right front leg. He also underwent extensive testing and received treatment for his other health issues, which thankfully are curable. He arrived at the sanctuary yesterday after spending 22 days in the hospital. We decided to name him “Philip Seymour” after the late, great dramatic actor, since his life leading up to his emergency rescue was one filled with lots of drama, as well as uncertainty.
The worst is over for Philip Seymour, who is now on the road to a full recovery. Now, we need your help! We would greatly appreciate it if you would make a tax-deductible donation toward Philip’s rescue, hospitalization, surgery, and lengthy recovery. Your generous support will help this young horse live a long, healthy, and happy life in the company of other horses here at his new permanent home. We plan to introduce him to a herd of four Thoroughbred Geldings at the sanctuary in the spring, or sooner if we have a mild winter here in the Hudson Valley Region of upstate New York.
When making a web donation, please select “In Honor Of” and write “Philip Seymour Fundraiser.” Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to read about Philip’s compelling story. It is one of the numerous emergency rescues we have undertaken since our inception nearly three decades ago. I traveled to Ithaca, NY, to visit Philip the day after he arrived at Cornell. I was amazed at how sweet and playful he was, given his condition and all that he had been through. He just seemed happy to finally have some good food, shelter, and kind treatment.

Please visit Philip’s GoFundMe page for more details, photos, and frequent updates about his progress and new life at the sanctuary.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Susan Wager, President
