Amos

$50.00

Amos, a Percheron Draft, served this country as a Military Working Horse for 14 years with the Caisson Platoon, a unit of the United States Army. Because of his sheer size and strength, he almost exclusively served as a Wheel Horse who pulled the caisson, or wagon, carrying the caskets of fallen military members to their final resting places at Arlington National Cemetery. However, because Amos was also such a good riding horse, he occasionally would serve as a Section Horse in military funeral processions. Section Horses are ridden and not connected to the wagon and are positioned directly next to the Lead Horses.

During his years of service, Amos performed in many military funerals and other official ceremonies, including the funeral of General Colin Powell in 2021. The Caisson Platoon released Amos from service on November 1, 2023. He was first shipped to Cornell University Hospital for Animals where he underwent a health and wellness exam before coming to the sanctuary. Amos was born in 2004, but we do not know his exact date of birth. Consequently, we will celebrate his birthday every year on November 9th, the day he arrived at Equine Advocates. Amos is a handsome grey gelding with a kind and playful disposition. We are honored to provide this equine veteran with a well-deserved retirement where he will be cared for and doted on for the rest of his life.
