Denny, formally Major Deegan, is a chestnut Thoroughbred gelding born on February 4, 2002. When he could no longer race, he was admitted to a State University Equine Studies Program. He had sustained a broken coffin bone and had issues with his stifle, so he was about to be dumped at auction by the school when Equine Advocates rescued him, Tim, and another Thoroughbred named Monty on December 5, 2010. Every institute of learning that uses horses in its programs should teach responsible horse guardianship. Denny spends his days with four other Thoroughbreds in a section of the sanctuary we call “A Few Good Men.” Photo credit: Gregg Heniges
