Joey
From: $50.00 / month
Joey is a Registered Thoroughbred who raced under the name “Laila’s Jazz.” He was born on March 9, 2010. Joey raced until he was seven years old with lifetime earnings of more than $253,000. We first heard about Joey in mid-October 2019 from a friend of Equine Advocates who discovered him emaciated and suffering from severe neglect on a farm in Steuben County, NY.
As soon as we saw how weak and skeletal he was, we became involved immediately, as we knew how badly in need he was of medical attention. Joey was transported to Cornell University Hospital for Animals where he was described by his examining veterinarian as “a rack of bones” with a body condition score of “1” on the Henneke Scale. After nearly a week in the hospital, he arrived at Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary on October 27, 2019. Joey is an extremely friendly gelding who was starved and made to suffer needlessly.
We were so happy to be able to offer him a loving and forever home here at the sanctuary. Joey resides in the section of the sanctuary we call “The Heartbreakers.”
Joey is proudly sponsored by supporters from Denver, Colorado; Salisbury, Connecticut; Beach Haven, New Jersey; Summit, New Jersey; Brooklyn, New York and Valatie, New York.
