Sly

From: $50.00 / month

Sly was captured by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on January 13, 2024, as part of the largest roundup of that year. It took place in the Black Mountain Herd Management Area (HMA) located in the extreme northwestern part of Arizona. During this time, more than 1100 Wild Burros were captured over 17 days. One of the biggest threats to Wild Burros is human encroachment on their territory. Urban development, increasing human populations, ranching, and other factors have led to significant losses to their natural habitats, directly affecting their ability to find adequate food and water sources. This encroachment has also resulted in some Burros being hit and killed by vehicles. Experts recommend the establishment of Wildlife Corridors (connecting habitats) as one of the ways to help protect their populations and ensure their survival.

Sly arrived at Equine Advocates on June 13, 2025. His estimated birth year is 2017. Since we do not know the day he was born, we will celebrate his Re-Birth-Day on June 13th, the day he and three other Wild Burros arrived at our sanctuary. Sly can most easily be recognized by a part of his left ear that is missing, most likely the result of a past injury or bite.
