Tim, formerly “Timothy Murphy,” is a Registered Thoroughbred Gelding born on April 14, 1999. He is a grandson of Conquistador Cielo and 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. After his racing career was over, he was retrained and sent to join a State University Equine Studies Program. The school was about to sell him and two other Thoroughbred geldings, Denny and Monty, at auction because they had outlived their usefulness. Equine Advocates found out about their story and purchased them privately from the school on December 5, 2010. Learning institutions that use horses in their equine programs should teach responsible horse guardianship and not just dispose of their horses and put their lives at risk when they are no longer in those programs. Tim now spends his days with other Thoroughbreds, including Denny, in a section of the sanctuary we call “A Few Good Men.”
